As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work on ground breaking projects, collaborate with industry experts, and drive meaningful change in the world of e-mobility.

About the role
At VEV we are growing our power supply and optimisation commercial function, aimed at creating additional value for C&I customers through using our VEV IQ platform. Our smart charging algorithms bridge between power markets, the needs of EV fleets, and our ability to forecast and control when charging can most optimally occur. Our TPI brokerage and our electricity supply model allow us to tailor Industrial & Commercial (I&C) electricity supply to suit the needs of our EV fleet customers. Working across the business, the successful candidate will be helping to shape a core pillar of VEV.
Role and Responsibilities

The Power, Flexibility & Optimisation function has the following responsibilities:
  • Lead thinking within VEV on the role of power optimisation as a scalable pillar within the business to drive long-term value creation
  • Identify and build partnerships to provide market access for VEV and our customers in power supply and power flexibility services
  • Leading VEV’s power and optimisation offer development (in partnership with VEV’s Commercial Function) to understand customers’ current and future needs for power, and to lead the design of commercial structures to create value and manage risk
  • Accountable for the regulatory and reporting requirements of our TPI brokerage and supply model
  • Collaborate across VEV, particularly with the Product and Projects functions, to clarify needs and ensure alignment with the roadmap for VEV’s digital platform and with project design specs, leading thinking about trade-offs between short and long-term costs
  • Provide ongoing account management to customers to ensure that they understand their ongoing costs and risks, along with opportunities to create additional value

This is a broad position which requires a blend of commercial acumen, customer account management, technical understanding, and deep energy system knowledge. This role combines energy market and solutions expertise with direct customer engagement. Over time, our expectation is that this role will become more focused as the team grows – the successful candidate will have the opportunity to inform the shaping of the development of the team.

Core responsibilities:

  • Leading the development and delivery of VEV’s power supply & optimisation offer, for multiple target customer groups, in partnership with VEV’s Commercial Function
  • Establish and grow power supply, flexibility and optimisation opportunities, through analysing customer needs, demonstrating innovative and novel value opportunities, and converting these into commercial opportunities
  • Building models to support cost & value forecasting for power supply, optimisation & flexibility, and for tracking contract performance
  • Performance analysis and reporting (in partnership with our Power and Data Analysts), utilising operational and meter data, bills, cost of power, including reconciling any errors
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory and reporting requirements of our power market access models
  • Enabling customer onboarding/offboarding for power supplies (new and transfers) to ensure regulatory requirements are met (e.g. metering, billing, reporting), including working with project teams, MOPs, DNOs/iDNOs, and power suppliers
  • Preparing for and delivering monthly account management, including volume reforecasting and hedge management
  • Remaining abreast of industry changes to electricity markets and costs and informing/leading the wider VEV organisation on this topic
Experience and qualifications required

The successful candidate will have:

  • 5+ years in commercial roles within the energy sector, with a focus on C&I (non-domestic) retail electricity / flexibility markets, e.g. at a C&I energy retailer, TPI/broker, aggregator
  • Detailed understanding of the components of C&I retail power supply price structures; experience of benchmarking and comparing differing offers; knowledge of the trends of commodity and non-commodity price components
  • Tender/request response experience, including analysis of customer needs, building innovative & credible offers for power supply / optimisation, and then putting these into practise.
  • Contract development and ongoing management experience, in collaboration with legal and compliance functions
  • Thorough understanding of short & long-term wholesale electricity market positioning to manage risk and maximise optimisation value
  • A solid understanding of how the GB power system operates and is balanced, how transmission and distribution costs are recovered, and the fundamentals of the wholesale electricity market
  • Knowledge of roles that behind-the-meter generation, storage and demand flexibility can play in cost avoidance, revenue generation and decarbonisation
  • Proficiency in electricity data analysis using Excel
  • Strong written (Word and Powerpoint) and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information to non-technical stakeholders

Desirable attributes:

  • Understanding of GB power flexibility markets / revenue opportunities
  • Understanding of low-carbon solutions and how they are used, e.g. REGOs, renewable PPAs
  • Experience of applying for and managing GB power flexibility market access
  • Understanding of relevant regulatory requirements applicable to the GB market
  • Knowledge of the Dutch and French electricity markets
  • A good understanding of project economics
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
